A Keto Diet Challenge Might Be The Best Way To Kick-Start Your Weight Loss

People are not done raving about the keto diet—you may even want to try it out yourself…but, uh, when do you start? Like, is next week a good time? What about the week after that?

Well, you’re in luck: There are a bunch of keto diet challenges that can help you make your keto dreams a reality. And, if you already follow keto, they can help keep you on track—or get back on track if you’ve fallen off—and give you the support of a community.

“Challenges, if done right, are great ways to keep yourself motivated,” says Scott Keatley, R.D., of Keatley Medical Nutrition Therapy. “Studies and other commercial plans show that support is one of the top reasons people either stay or leave a diet plan.” Challenges in particular “help to create a concrete goal and provides accountability to the dieter,” he says. Uh, sold.

But even once you’ve decided that a keto diet challenge is definitely something you want to do, it’s still hard to know which one to choose. It’s cool, I got your back (I always do)—here are a few popular keto diet challenges out there right now.

KetoDiet App’s 60-Day Challenge

The KetoDiet app, which helps you track your keto meals and macros from your phone, has rotating challenges that are free for anyone to join (their app still costs money, but you can access the KetoDiet challenge online).

The 60-day challenge (which started on October 1 and lasts through the end of November) provides you with three keto diet plans, offers up a support group where you can get advice, allows you to track your progress, and lets you register to win a bunch of prizes—like the always keto-friendly Instant Pot and tons of keto cookbooks.

Killin It Keto’s 21-Day Keto Challenge

If 60 days seems like…alot, Killin It Keto offers up a 21-day challenge, with a new cycle starting every Monday.

Created by Rachel Gregory, C.S.C.S., Killin It Keto founder, the challenge says it can help “kickstart your healthy lifestyle” with “21 days of guidance, recipes, motivation, and expert consultation.” (FYI: Rachel also wrote the 21-Day Ketogenic Diet Weight Loss Challenge book.) The challenge includes a daily personalized email (you know, to help you stay on keto track), as well as a guide to everything keto and access to a Facebook group “where like-minded keto enthusiasts discuss health and fitness while creating a virtual community for everyday support.”

There’s just one thing: This challenge is going to cost you ($80, to be specific)—but honestly, all you really need is one keto diet challenge for it to (hopefully) stick.

Ruled.Me 30-Day Ketogenic Diet Plan

Any keto dieter knows that Ruled.Me is a damn lifesaver when it comes to the keto diet—the site itself is chock full of recipes, advice, and fun keto success stories. So, clearly, the site’s 30-Day Ketogenic Diet Meal Plan is a winner.

This plan—which has a suggested price of $15, though you can pay what you want—promises to deliver a meal plan for an entire month on the ketogenic diet. Recipes, along with a breakdown of macros, and a daily lineup of what you should be eating are all included.

Kasey Trenum’s Keto/Low Carb 30-Day Challenge

Initially, blogger Kasey Trenum set up the Keto/Low Carb 30-Day Challenge to get her own “butt in gear,” and get back into shape. “When I am challenged, I tend to work harder,” she wrote on her website. But, to her surprise, tons of her followers wanted to join her.

Now, Kasey invites people to try the challenge on their own (or with friends and the Facebook group she continues to run). She offers up a printable checklist so you can track yourself and your progress. She also created a grocery list you can print out and use, and has a Facebook group where you can ask questions and get feedback. The best part: It’s totally free.

The Keto Summit’s 7-Day Keto Challenge

Sure, 60 days is super long…but so is a month. If you’re really crunched for time (and still want to give keto a try to see if you like it), Keto Summit offers a weeklong keto challenge.

Keto Summit’s 7-Day Keto Challenge is a free challenge that starts every Monday and offers a seven-day menu to get a full week of keto goodness. The challenge also offers up keto experts to chat with if you have questions, along with daily email inspiration and a community of keto dieters to help you stay on track.

Another thing to note: You actually don’t have to count macros on this challenge—Keto Summit did all the work for you already, so you don’t have to feel too “bogged down with learning a new way of eating.”
