Eczema treatment – the best oil for moisturising during coronavirus outbreak at home

Eczema is a long-term condition that causes the skin to become dry, itchy, red and cracked, according to the NHS. But, moisturising the affected skin with sunflower oil could help to get rid of the condition, it’s been claimed.

Young children are most at risk of developing eczema symptoms, but it could also develop in later life.

If you have eczema, your symptoms can vary between small patches of dry skin, to widespread, inflamed areas of cracked skin.

But you could lower your risk of dry skin by regularly moisturising with sunflower oil, it’s been revealed.

The oil is an easy alternative for over-the-counter medication, if you’re struggling to get out and about during the coronavirus lockdown.

Sunflower oil helps to improve the skin’s natural barrier against dry skin, according to the National Eczema Association.

It will also boost the skin’s ability to retain any moisture following the application.

Everyone with eczema should consider using sunflower oil on their skin twice a day, it added.

Its anti-inflammatory properties mean that it’s an ideal remedy for dry skin.

“It’s important to understand what triggers your eczema,” said the National Eczema Association.

“Learning about the irritants in your everyday surroundings can help you better manage the condition whether you use traditional medications, alternative therapies, or both.

“Sunflower oil boosts the skin’s barrier function, helping it to retain moisture. It also has anti-inflammatory properties.

You could also protect against eczema by using coconut oil, it added.

Rubbing coconut oil onto the affected skin reduces the amount of ‘bad’ bacteria on the skin, which subsequently slashes your risk on infection.
