Pressing your natural ‘poop button’ could cure constipation – and help stress

There’s not much which can be said of constipation, other than it’s rather unpleasant.

As for what causes it, there could be a few factors at play: Lack of fibre, not getting enough fluids, dietary changes, stress or anxiety – there’s a long list.

In terms of treatment, there’s a few things you could do, many of which directly address the above.

Then there’s also your ‘ poop button’.

Sounds gross, but apparently it’s "a thing".

The Poop Button.

Forget upping your fibre intake and fluids, Wisdom of the Moon claims the answer to constipation relief lies with you, with a little bit of help from some acupressure.

What you do, is you press a little spot under your belly button and let the good times roll.

Wisdom of the Moon’s advice is as follows:

1. Always measure any ‘fingerwidths’ with the fingers of the person being acupressured. That keeps the ratios the same.

2. Don’t push on the spot if you have long fingernails. You can use the eraser on the end of a pencil.

3. Use firm pressure, but not super hard.

4. Back off if this causes pain. If this happens, retry it very gently, slowly and steadily increasing the pressure. Also, focus on the breath if this happens, as it can help to release stress and pain.

5. Sometimes this works in as little as 5 or 10 seconds. If it doesn’t, feel free to continue applying pressure for 1 to 3 minutes. Don’t hold it for more than 5 minutes, though.

6. I would also like to add that, in our house, we don’t have problems with chronic constipation and this method has consistently worked within a minute or two.

7. For cases of chronic constipation, it might require more frequent (and maybe shorter) sessions of acupressure.

But can accupressure actually help constipation?

According to John Kirkwood from The Acupressure Centre , a poop button isn’t actually as ridiculous as it sounds.

It’s called the Conception 6 Vessel, and it is located two fingers’ width below our belly button.

Speaking to Kidspot , he said: "Conception Vessel 6 is useful for many abdominal conditions, be they digestive, reproductive, menstrual or urogenital.

"It is indicated for both diarrhoea and constipation.

"My points of choice for constipation are Large Intestine 4 and 11 which help with letting go, not only of the colon, but of stress and anything you’re holding onto."

If this works for you, then please do let us know.
