The Blonds Team With MAC on ‘Bombshell Essentials’ Makeup Line

Phillipe and David Blond are bringing the theatrics to New York Fashion Week — on and off the runway.
The designers, who formed fashion label The Blonds in 2007, have paired with MAC Cosmetics on a line packaged in their signature style of sparkle and studs. The collection, themed Bombshell Essentials, includes two lipsticks, two lip glosses, an eyeliner, a powder, a brush and studded fake eyelashes. It launches online globally on Sept. 6, with prices ranging from $20 to $42.
"It’s all about sparkle, it’s all about making the skin glisten, it’s about it being for everyone, it’s genderless," said David Blond. "We wanted it to be something that would be easily incorporated into everyone’s collection of makeup. There are little things in there that are classic but they have a twist."
The lipsticks are named after both designers, and the products in general were inspired by Phillipe and David Blond's varying makeup looks. The packaging, said David, was all "about sparkle, diamonds, glamour."
"We were trying to think of something that would represent what MAC and The Blonds are all about," he said. "It is that over-the-top glamorous idea of whatever scene we’re trying to do. We chose packaging that was as big as we could make it with the most jewels you could possibly put on it so it would be the most glamorous Hollywood icon compact you could possibly use, something you want to look at when it’s sitting on your vanity."
Through The Blonds, David and Phillipe have dressed some of the most celebrated names in music, including Britney Spears, Rihanna, Beyoncé, Gwen Stefani, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj and most recently, Cardi B. They worked with MAC as freelance makeup artists for three years before launching their label and have since teamed with the cosmetics company on more than 20 runway shows for The Blonds. The design duo will feature the Bombshell Essentials line — their first product collaboration with MAC — in their upcoming show at New York Fashion Week.
"This is gonna be one of the largest-scale shows we’ve ever put on," said David Blond. "It’s gonna include lots of different characters, so it will be an interesting theatrical event. We’re going to incorporate all the products in the collaboration, so you’ll get to see the lashes on the runway, some of the lipsticks, as well as the lip glosses."
