Doctor shares key sign of Covid in vaccinated patients

The beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic saw symptoms like cough, loss of taste or smell as the tell-tale signs of the virus.

But the emergence of new variants, the introduction of vaccines and a better understanding of coronavirus has found a wider array of symptoms.

Now, a doctor has shared a key sign of the virus that seems to strike mainly in vaccinated patients.

While sneezing is a common problem that can be stirred up by hay fever or dust, it could also be a sign of Covid.

A 2022 study, published in The Lancet, found sneezing was becoming a quite common indicator of the virus.

The research team noticed that sneezing affected up to 70 percent of people with the condition.

According to Dr Mike Tee, from Harley Street Skin Clinic, sneezing can be especially prevalent in those who have had their Covid jabs.

The doctor said: “Sneezing more than usual can be a sign of COVID-19 in people who have been vaccinated, but typically not in those who are unvaccinated.”

While the vaccines can significantly blunt the impact Covid has on your body, they are no silver bullet.

The Zoe Health Study explained that vaccinated people tend to experience similar symptoms as unvaccinated people do, but their illness is milder and shorter.

Furthermore, their data showed that people who had been jabbed and then tested positive for Covid were more likely to report sneezing as a symptom.

Apart from your vaccine status, the variant you’ve contracted could also dictate whether you may experience sneezing.

Dr Tee explained that the uncomfortable sign is often found in people with the Omicron variant.

In a previous interview, Dr Johannes Uys, a GP at Broadgate General Practice, told Express.co.uk that sneezing is also frequently reported with newer Omicron variants like Eris.

While the sign can ring alarm bells, sneezing is “more likely” to point to cold or allergies, Zoe reports.

The most reliable way of determining whether your sneezing is caused by Covid is through a test.

“If you’ve been vaccinated and start sneezing a lot without an explanation, you should stay home and get a Covid test, especially if you are living or working around people who are at greater risk from the disease,” the health portal added.
