Halsey Credits Parenthood for Their Best Skincare Hack Yet

A pregnancy takes everything you think you know about your body and throws it out the window. Think you know your shoe size? Nope! Think you know your emotions? Haha, think again! Think you know your appetite? Yeah freakin’ right. Think you know your complexion? Oh honey, think again. Because as if nailing down an effective skincare routine isn’t complicated enough, pregnancy can bring on all kinds of dermatological changes.

The pregnancy “glow” can really just be excess oils that result in acne. The increase in melanin can lead to dark spots. And of course, stretch marks can pop up pretty much everywhere. And even if you don’t see any changes, you may have to say “buh-bye” to your favorite products (at least for now!) if they contain ingredients that aren’t safe to use during pregnancy.

Great.

And so we are always on the hunt for products that can make a mama-to-be feel more confident in her own skin (literally). There’s this vitamin C serum that has been a “game-changer” for dark spots. This rose spray that model Ashley Graham says makes her belly dewy and soft. And there are these acne patches that have become a staple of actor Brenda Song’s postpartum routine. So we were so excited when Halsey shared their favorite postpartum skincare ingredient.

Halsey is a proud mama of one. They share a 2-year-old son with their boyfriend Alev Aydin, and it turns out that little Ender played a big role in his mom nailing down their skincare routine. That’s because Halsey’s beloved skincare ingredient is breast milk.

In an interview with Nylon, Halsey said they have always been conscious about what they put on their skin. And so now that they have a baby to kiss and snuggle, they have become “hyper-cognizant” of what’s on their face.

“I started breastfeeding and I figured out that breast milk is the best skincare ingredient ever because it’s so full of antioxidants and good fats and stuff that speed up the healing process.”

  • Colostrum For The Win

If you’re picturing Halsey rubbing their own breast milk on their face, think again. There are actually products that include breast milk (usually from a cow) and they are lauded for their anti-aging properties.

Halsey said they love Biologique Repecharge’s Colostrum VG Serum which is formulated with colostrum, the first form of breast milk mammals produce. As you can imagine, it’s not a simple product to source, and the price tag reflects it. A cheaper alternative is the Epicuren Discovery Colostrum Luminous Glow Cream. Shoppers said they would “sing the praises of this moisturizer from the rooftops if [they] could!”

  • Keke’s Secret

Keke Palmer learned her own skincare hack this year. The secret to clear skin, she said, is being pregnant!

“There’s no more bumps,” the comedian said in a hilarious Instagram video. “There’s no more of the raise. And so I’m here to let y’all know that I found the secret. I found the secret to clearing up my acne and guess what it is: You need to get knocked up. Period. Point blank. Period.”

And if that’s what it takes to have clear skin, Palmer is all in.

“Call me Keke Wyatt,” she said, referencing the singer-songwriter who has 11 children. “Cuz I’m about to be pregnant for the rest of my life!”
