Here's the Bizarre Reason People Are Applying Toothpaste to Their Breasts
We understand the passion behind beauty DIYs, but sometimes, the wild world of YouTube takes a turn for the worse. This is one of those times.
The latest "hack" to go viral, according to Metro UK, is the Internet-fueled rumor that rubbing toothpaste on your breasts will tighten them and make them appear larger. At best, it's a waste of your time and Colgate; at worst, it's an outright lie.
According to Metro, a YouTuber who goes by Naturalbeauty556 is under fire for a video that claims she tightened "sagging breasts in just five days using toothpaste." The site reports that she even shared a recipe with a mixture of toothpaste, plain flour, egg whites, and grated cucumber, which, when slathered on the chest, supposedly tightens breasts. The article also calls out another YouTuber, Susana Home Remedies, who advised her followers to apply toothpaste to their nipples, as well as Vaseline onto their breasts, to make them grow larger.
So, real talk: Is there any truth to these hacks? Not in the slightest, say the experts. "This is preposterous," Susan Bard, a dermatologist at Manhattan Dermatology Specialists in New York City, told Teen Vogue. "None of the ingredients in these concoctions have the capacity to increase breast tissue or tighten loose skin."
In fact, when applied to the skin, this recipe could have an adverse effect on the skin. "Applying these mixtures are not without risk as they can cause contact dermatitis," says Bard.
Christopher Inglefield, medical director of the London Bridge Plastic Surgery & Aesthetic Clinic, told Metro that these recipes are "pure online quackery."
It almost goes without saying that no matter the size of your breasts, what's important is that you learn how to love yourself regardless of your appearance. Of course, if it's minty fresh breasts you're after, the Colgate will work out just fine.
