Counting On's Josiah Duggar, Lauren Swanson Reveal Sex of Baby
It’s a girl! Josiah Duggar and Lauren Duggar (née Swanson) revealed to Us Weekly exclusively that they have a daughter on the way.
“We are so grateful that God has blessed us with a sweet baby girl!” the Counting On couple told Us. “If she only knew how loved she is already and how many people are already praying for her! She truly is a gift… a miracle from God.”
After Lauren had blood work done to determine her baby-to-be’s gender, she gave the results to her sister, Lily. At a small gender reveal party, family members were given balloons filled with white, pink or blue confetti. Whichever balloon had either blue or pink would determine the sex, but Lily surprised everyone by hiding one final balloon in the back with the actual reveal confetti— which was pink!
Lauren’s sister-in-law, Kendra Duggar (née Caldwell) told Us exclusively that she is also expecting a daughter, and Jessa Seewald (née Duggar), welcomed her baby girl in May.
Josiah and Lauren announced that same month that they are expecting their first child together after suffering a miscarriage. “God’s faithfulness to us in our most difficult moments has sustained us and brought us such love and comfort,” the reality stars told Us exclusively in May. “We cannot begin to tell you how much we are looking forward to holding this baby in our arms this fall. Every good and perfect gift is from above and we are looking forward to this new season of parenting together!”
They added in their Instagram announcement: “As we rejoice of the life of our second sweet baby, we also remember (balloon as symbolism) our other sweet baby, Asa, in heaven. God is so incredibly good!” In the social media upload, Josiah, 22, and Lauren, 20, cradled her baby bump while a white balloon floated in the distance.
The TLC personalities, who wed in June 2018, announced in February that they had lost their first pregnancy. “A couple months ago, we found out that we were expecting, but suddenly thereafter, we lost our baby,” Lauren said at the time.
Her husband went on to say, “It really was a hard time for our family going through this right after we got married. And all the dreams of getting to see our little one and hold it in our hands dashed before our eyes.”
He honored his wife on Mother’s Day, writing, “Not all mothers arms get to hold their little one, or get to hear their baby’s laughs and cries. You may have missed out on these things since our baby was called home to be with Jesus, but you ARE a mother. I love you Lauren! … #mamatoanangelbaby.”
