Recreating Kate Middleton’s Wardrobe On A Budget And The Results Are Amazing

Just because Kate Middleton lives in a palace, and is married to, you know, a prince, doesn’t mean you can’t steal her look. In fact, one beautician in the U.K. decided to recreate the Duchess of Cambridge’s style herself—without the royal budget.

Kate Urbanksa has a blog called Great RepliKate (see what she did there?), where she posts photos of herself wearing looks that Duchess Kate has rocked, with information for readers on how they can do the same thing.

According to the Daily Mail, the blogger created her wardrobe by scouring eBay, hiring a tailor to reconstruct the pieces she finds, and being selective about which of the Kate’s outfits she copies. Non-royal Kate has replicated the duchess’ Great Plains Cezanne dress (which costs $93) for $2.50, and even got a tailor to reconstruct the royal’s Naeem Khan dress—that costs almost $4,000—for just $24. She regularly posts the results on Instagram:

Her looks are pretty impressive, and it goes to show how a little ingenuity and great tailoring can go a long way. “I love Kate Middleton and her style—her look is modest, timeless and so different compared to other celebrities nowadays,” Kate told the Daily Mail.

The blogger says she prefers to buy the real deal rather than knock-offs because they last longer. “I’m always looking for bargains,” she says. “I check eBay and online auctions daily so I can get the exact pieces Kate Middleton has worn without the hefty price tag.”

She doesn’t just try to mimic the duchess’ style—Kate says she also tries to copy her rumoured skincare and beauty routine—right down to buying the duchess’ favourite scent, Jo Malone Orange Blossom Candle ($85, amazon.com).

If the duchess has a custom-made outfit or it’s too pricey for Kate to buy, she’ll hire a tailor to reconstruct the piece out of something cheaper. All in, Kate says she’s spent about 7,000 pounds (about $8,700) recreating the duchess’ wardrobe. Pretty impressive, considering the real thing is worth so much more.
