Halle Berry: Why Welcoming a Baby After 40 Can Be 'More Meaningful'
Worth the wait! Halle Berry welcomed both daughter Nahla, 11, and son Maceo, 5, after turning 40 and raved about the experience.
“You’re so much more ready to be a parent after 40 than when you’re 20,” the actress, 52, told Us Weekly exclusively at the recent John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum world premiere. “You know yourself better. You’ve done a lot of things for yourself, selfishly. When you wait later in life, you can really put your kids forward I think in a more meaningful way.”
Her advice for moms considering starting a family later in life? “Do it,” she told Us. “Just do it.”
The X-Men star welcomed her daughter with then-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry in 2008, when she was 41. Nahla became a bit sister when Maceo arrived in 2013 with Berry’s ex-husband Oliver Martinez. Berry was 47.
She told Ellen DeGeneres what a miracle this was in May 2014, sharing a sweet story about then-6-year-old Nahla praying for a sibling for a year and a half.
“Only her prayers could have done this,” the Ohio native told the Ellen DeGeneres Show host, 61. “I didn’t think it was possibly at my age, honestly. They call it a geriatric pregnancy. I was, you know, on my way. This is probably way TMI, but I was kind of premenopausal, so to have this happen was huge.”
In 2017, she sparked pregnancy rumors when she sported a form-fitting dress at the Butterfly Ball and posed with her hands on her stomach.
“It is absolutely not true. She is not pregnant,” Berry’s rep told Us at the time, and Berry debunked the speculation herself the next day. “Can a girl have some steak and fries??” she captioned a red carpet photo.
