According to GrubHub, This State Is The Most Pumpkin Spice Obsessed
When we think of fall, it conjures a few things to mind. Bright orange, red, and yellow leaves; the first chilly nights of the season; snuggling by the fire; and…surf and sunshine? It turns out that for some of us, eating pumpkin and wearing bikinis go hand in hand. In fact, according to GrubHub, California is the state that makes the most pumpkin food orders in the fall.
They call it fall FOMO, and it might be true. As a SoCal resident myself, I’ve often found myself chugging Pumpkin Spice Lattes as soon as they’re available in August, decorating for Halloween on September 1st, and turning the A/C down unethically low so I can watch Casper while draped in a snuggly blanket. The second place pumpkin fans were Oregon and Washington, making the west coast the pumpkin spice-lovers epicenter of the country.
But not everyone is as pumpkin-obsessed as West Coasters. In the rest of the country, peak pumpkin season doesn’t start in August, when pumpkin spice starts rearing its little orange head. According to GrubHub, the most pumpkin and pumpkin-spice flavored food orders are placed in October, followed by November. August is the third most popular month for pumpkin, but there’s a bit of a September pumpkin slump. I guess after the hysteria of the start of pumpkin spice season dies down everyone realizes that it’s actually still summer, and ends up waiting until October to really sink their teeth in.
When people are ready for their pumpkin feasts, the most popular things to order are on the sweet side: pumpkin spice pancakes, pumpkin pie milkshakes, and pumpkin spice cheesecake are the top choices. Plain old pumpkin pie didn’t chart as one of the year’s most popular pumpkin foods, but it will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Those who don’t obsess over pumpkin shouldn’t despair. Caramel apple is the next most-popular order in the fall. Chewy caramel, crisp apple, a sprinkle of warming spices…we can’t hate on that!
