The Dog Breed That 24% Of People Agree Is The Best
Who doesn’t love dogs? They’re cuddly, loyal companions, and force us to get out and get some exercise and fresh air. Even when we would rather keep being lazy on the couch. Yes, we love our four-legged friends, no matter what type of breed they are. But when the question came up of which dog breed was liked the best, the response pointed to an overwhelming favorite.
The List conducted a survey of over 11,000 people asking participants to choose their favorite dog breed, and the results are in. The Golden Retriever was listed as the obvious favorite with 24 percent of people claiming it to be their favorite breed of dog. And we get it. Just thinking about their glossy, golden coats makes us want to cuddle with one right now. Originally of Scottish descent, a Golden Retriever’s temperament is known for being friendly, intelligent, and devoted (via American Kennel Club). A lovely combo! Females range between 55 and 65 pounds, while males are known to get up to 75 pounds, and their average life expectancy is 10 to 12 years.
Golden Retrievers are highly intelligent
Intelligence was mentioned in their temperament, but it may come as a surprise to know just how smart these golden pups are. They are ranked fourth in dog breeds with the highest intelligence right after German Shepherds, Border Collies, and Poodles (via Puppy Toob).
What about the other favorites? German Shepherds came in second place on The List’s survey with 19 percent of the votes. Labs finished third with 11 percent, followed by French Bulldogs with 8 percent. 38 percent of voters gave their votes to the ‘other’ option, and offered up their comments. YouTube member, Adina Budacov, shares her inability to choose a favorite saying, “I love all the pooches in the world, I don’t have a favourite breed!” Another user, Cheshire Kitten, shares, “my favorite breed is….Dog.” So whether you are the owner of a Golden Retriever or a Chihuahua/Pitbull mix, we hope you can agree that no matter what breed of dog, our furry friends make great pets.
